A BIG WEEKEND AT LAKESIDE!

Team captain, and graduating senior, Ella Horton, lead her team through a weekend of intense tournament polo. The girls took on and defeated Lakeside Girls in the first game.  Day two featured a tough match against Lakeside Varsity, who was selected to compete in the National Championships in Virginia next month.  Rafiki, owned by OC Polo Club, received the Best Playing Pony Award and Ella was honored as a tournament “All Star”.   All Stars are selected by their peers as examples of stellar players and teammates who show excellent horsemanship and sportsmanship.

The Interscholastic polo program is a competitive league in which students in 7th-12th grades compete against other teams in their region and across the country.  Teams enter into either the open division (which is boys and girls) or the all girls division. Players must meet their school’s academic standards in order to compete but they play with the club that they are affiliated with as opposed to the school that they attend.  The interscholastic program provides an opportunity for players to compete in a national league against their peers in middle school and high school tournaments. Many students who play in high school go on to play polo in college.  Ella has chosen University of Idaho and will be competing on their collegiate team next year.

OC Polo Club has had an active interscholastic team for the last decade.  Players have gone on to play college polo and beyond.  The players work hard to earn their place on the team and practice multiple times per week during the season. Coaches Heather Perkins and Bekah Segien are beyond proud of these young ladies for their outstanding efforts on and off the field. Click here for more TOURNAMENT PHOTOS!

See you on the field,
Happy Birthday DG!
Bekah Segien CelebratesTen Years with OC Polo!
Saturday May 1st we will be celebrating our barn manager, Bekah Segien’s ten year anniversary of working for OC Polo. She started out as a horse crazy teen with no polo experience but an amazing capability to learn. Through the years she has become a great polo player and excellent horse manager. In addition to her accomplishments on the polo field she worked hard to obtain her Class A Commercial Drivers License (no easy feat) and now drives the 12-14 horse trailers with ease. We are so honored to have Bekah at OC Polo for the last 10 years and are looking forward to many more.
U.S. Open Championship The Super Bowl of Polo
SCONE vs PARKPLACE
The winter season in Wellington, Florida is the highest rated polo in the country.  At the end of the season is the U.S Open Polo Championship, easily equated to the Super Bowl of polo. Just as in the Super Bowl, the two very best teams from the season come head to head for the most heavily anticipated, action packed display of athleticism, superior game strategy and exceptional horse power.  This year was unique in that the Michael Jordan of Polo, Adolfo Cambiaso, played with his 15 year old son, Poroto,  for his first ever US Open appearance. Their team, Scone, faced off against the fan favorite Park Place.  If you want to watch the action go to Global Polo Blah Blah Blah for on demand viewing of the US Open and the high goal season in Florida.  Spoiler alert…Poroto’s handicap was 6 goals this season.  After his performance in the Open, he will be moved to 8 goals next month, and 9 goals for 2022.  He is on track to become 10 goals by the age of 17, just like his father.
EARTH DAY THROWBACK!

April 21st is the official celebration of Earth Day. At Rancho Silverado Stables we feel we are celebrating every day. Both Heather Perkins and Bekah Segien are docent certified to lead trails through the beautiful Blackstar Canyons just outside the arena boards at OC Polo.
