Menlo Polo Club 90th Anniversary

Menlo Polo Club Hosts Third Annual ExpertQuote Silicon Valley Polo Classic In Celebration of Anniversary

ATHERTON, Calif., May 14, 2013 – It’s been dubbed “hockey on horseback” or “chess at 35 mph” – either way this full-contact sport on 1500 lb. animals is not for the faint of heart. That sport, of course, is polo, the sport of kings, now played also by princesses and queens. It is the only sport where men, women, amateurs and pros, in partnership with some of the most beautiful and best-trained animals in the world compete on the same field -- at the same time.

On Sunday, June 9th teams comprised of local and out-of-town amateur and professional players are expected to compete for trophies in the finals of the ExpertQuote Silicon Valley Polo Classic.   The event, free and open to the public, is part of the Menlo Polo Club’s 90th Anniversary celebration.  The tournament also benefits The Polo Training foundation.

“The Menlo Polo Club is distinguished as being one of the oldest clubs in California, second only to Santa Barbara Polo Club,” said Lyn Jason Cobb, president of the Menlo Polo Club.  “My grandfather, William Gilmore, founded the club in 1923 and served as president until the war.  My father, Mack Jason, took the reins after the war and served as the Menlo Polo Club president for 46 years.   As a third generation player, it’s been my pleasure to also serve as president and watch the club thrive.  And I can’t imagine a more appropriate way to celebrate our 90th year than with The Silicon Valley Polo Classic and through the support of our generous title sponsor and partner, ExpertQuote.”

“ExpertQuote is proud to once again be the title sponsor of the Third Annual Silicon Valley Polo Classic,” said Raj Singh, ExpertQuote’s chief operating officer.  “As a company that provides benefits consulting to many of the Valley’s start-ups and sports teams, we find it fitting to be part of the fabric of this community and partner with such a longstanding and prestigious club.”

The tournament will be played at The Menlo Circus Club, 190 Park Lane, Atherton, California from 11:00 am to 5:00pm.

In addition to title sponsor ExpertQuote, many previous sponsors have returned to support the third annual tournament including The Four Seasons Silicon Valley, Coupa Café and Cheval Polo.
